Ethically Sourced, Carefully Crafted

Empowering women growers and championing single-origin, fully traceable specialty coffees from Rwanda.

About Us

Our Story

At Roots & Origin, we believe every cup of coffee should honour its roots—both the land it comes from and the people who grow it. Based in Melbourne, we connect roasters with exceptional green coffee sourced directly from Rwanda, East Africa’s finest region.

We work closely with a select group of producers, including women-led farms and cooperatives across Rwanda. Our featured Southern Province lots—like those from the high-altitude slopes of Nyamagabe—reflect the kind of quality, traceability and care we champion.

These partnerships are built on fairness, transparency and long-term respect.
From soil to sack, every bean tells a story. We're here to help you roast with purpose.

Our mission

Our mission goes beyond importing exceptional beans. We’re brewing positive change one cup at a time—creating economic opportunities for women growers and ensuring fair compensation for the incredible quality they produce.

“Every cup carries a story of community, sustainability and quality”

Our Coffee

Featured Lot

Nyamurinda Estate Coffee

Grown at 1,800–2,000 m in Rwanda’s Southern Province, this natural-processed Bourbon varietal is produced on a women-owned 10-hectare estate in Nyamagabe. Sun-dried on raised beds and hand-sorted with care, it delivers a silky, fruit-forward cup with floral lift, ripe-berry sweetness, and bright citrus clarity—from washing station to your brew.

Coffee Regions

Northern Province

High-elevation slopes (1,600–2,100 m) where cool, misty mornings slow ripening. Expect a lifted floral bouquet—notes of jasmine and honeysuckle—balanced by crisp acidity, with tropical-fruit flavours like pineapple and guava tapering to a clean, structured finish.

Southern Province

In the rain-rich hills of Huye, Nyamagabe and Kamonyi (1,800–2,000 m), warm days and cool nights let cherries build sugar steadily. Beans here deliver plush, jam-like sweetness alongside bright, fruit-driven acidity. Enjoy a syrupy mouthfeel with lingering echoes of raisin, brown sugar and fine chocolate.

Western Province (Lake Kivu Region)

Farms along Lake Kivu (1,700–2,000 m) thrive in deep volcanic soils, regular mist, and steady rainfall—conditions that nurture slow-maturing cherries and complex flavours. Coffees from this region are known for their smooth, medium body with soft sweetness, hints of butterscotch and red-berry brightness, and a clean, crystal-clear finish.
